Chapter 604 works with several service organizations to help veterans within the Northeast Kansas area. We would like to thank PRAIRIE BAND POTAWATOMI NATION for their support of our chapter. Their support allows us to maintain the following projects.
Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 604 www.vva604.com PO Box 750322 Topeka, KS 66675-0322 “Never again will one generation of veteran’s abandon another” Activities 1. Built and maintain the Vietnam Memorial at Garfield Park. 2. Restored and maintain Vietnam Memorial at Topeka Cemetery – 10th and California. 3. Organize Annual Memorial Day Service at Topeka Cemetery. 4. Provide Honor Guard at Washburn University on Veteran’s Day. 5. Provide Honor Guard at veteran’s funerals when requested. 6. Sponsor various R.O.T.C. programs at the local high schools. 7. Hold VVA meeting 4th Thursday of every month. 8. Help Veterans in need (physical or personal crisis). 9. Have an informational booth set up at Go-Fourth, Cider Days, etc. 10. Sponsor members that speak at local schools. 11. Sponsor 2 annual blood drives. 12. Sponsor a personnel care item drive at Walmart on Wanamaker – in April. 13. Sponsor a food drive to help homeless veterans at Walmart on 37th – in October -- food collected is divided between the Rescue Mission and Let’s Help. 14. Serve ice cream to VA hospital patients on the 1st Thursday of the month. 15. Serve root beer floats to VA hospital patients twice a year. 16. Provide, serve and share Thanksgiving dinner with in-patient veterans at the Topeka VA hospital. 17. Members bring Toys-for-Tots to Thanksgiving dinner at Topeka VA hospital. 18. Provide meat and cheese trays to 4 wards at the VA hospital for Christmas. 19. Provide, serve and share pizza with veterans on the PTSD ward for New Years. 20. Sponsor a table with game and treats for the VA hospital Spring Carnival for all vets. 21. Sponsor a table with game and treats for the VA hospital Fall Festival for all vets. 22. Provide coffee, cream and sugar for the patients on the PTSD ward. 23. Pick up and deliver donated donuts to various wards at the VA hospital. 24. Pop and serve the popcorn and sodas and serve as escorts for wheelchair patients, at VA Building 24 (recreation) for movie night – 1st Wednesday of the month. 25. Provide TV’s, microwave ovens, refrigerators, WII systems for therapy to the wards as needed. 26. Volunteer at Topeka VA Hospital and Recreation Building in whatever capacity is needed. 27. Coordinate Annual Agent Orange balloon release – on Veteran’s Day each year. 28. Serve at annual smoke-out for patients and staff at Topeka VA Hospital. 29. Provide Washburn University Football and Basketball tickets for VA patients. 30. Sponsor table with treats for the VA Hospital Christmas Tea.
